For the fifth time the MARTS art project sets up a platform of contemporary painting in Kyiv to find out what the new generation of Ukrainian artists breathes. This year MARTS UNFRAMED brings their vision of the person and society, the world and the universe, reality and transcendence into the present tense.

The fifth exhibition of contemporary painting, MARTS UNFRAMED, runs from 22 to 31 August 2014 at the M17 Contemporary Art Center (Kyiv, 102-104 Horkoho St.). The paintings on show — from realism to transavantgarde — are a litmus test of how the cultural milieu reacts to the challenges of the present. Those reactions are non-linear, but conscious, candid and emotional.

MARTS UNFRAMED opens on the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day and presents a wide circle of artists from Kyiv, Crimea, and the west and east of the country. In all, 30 artists take part and more than 100 paintings are shown. At the formal opening, over cocktails and to contemporary electronic music, representatives of the artistic and cultural milieu, participants in the art market, gallerists, artists and members of foreign diplomatic missions will meet. The exhibition is accompanied by an art catalogue of the work of every participant.

The MARTS art project was founded by the charitable organisation International Cultural Dialogue and is run by the joint efforts of its members and partner organisations.
